Description

Irving Amen / American, 1918–2011

Note that this print is an artist’s proof, an experimental stage of the printmaking process. You can see a similar proof on irvingamen.com, next to an example from the regular edition. Those prints are listed as lithographs, and so we do the same. Otherwise, we would assume that at least the black line component of this print is an etching. It may be that Amen used a lithographic stone to produce the background yellow, and etching for the primary image. We do know that he sometimes combined linocut and etching in such a way.
