Description

Tavík Frantisek Simon (Czech, 1877–1942) remains a leading figure from a country that produced many great printmakers. Simon travelled much of the world, and is best known for urban scenes in soft-ground etching and aquatint.

He taught at the Academy of fine Arts, Prague (where he had studied) and taught a new generation of artists including Emil Kotrba. Simon was a founding member of the Hollar Society of Czech Graphic Artists.

This ex-libris was created for Václav Mares, a Prague booseller and publisher.
